This southwest Calgary family wanted a serene space for both work, recreation, and enjoying some well-deserved downtime. We began with a soothing colour palette of taupe with brown accents.
For comfort underfoot, we installed a 25-ounce Shaw carpet with 8-pound underlay. The spacious area is well-lit with 5” LED potlights. In the media zone, we installed our classic TV package, mounting the television on the wall and eliminating unsightly wires. Off to the side, we hid the electrical panel with a large mirror.
Our clients chose to designate the bedroom for a workspace. We brought a custom flair to the entrance with a handmade barn door crafted from reclaimed wood and painted the ceiling beam to match the walls. The double-doored closet offers plenty of storage.

In the bathroom, a 31” solid wood vanity is topped with stylish grey quartz. A multi-coloured tile backsplash offer a distinctive accent with the occasional cheerily patterned tile, and leads to a generously-proportioned mirror. The tub and shower combination nestle into the surrounding tile.

Although this basement doesn’t have a separate room for the gym, our clients wanted their workout area to feel like its own destination. We accomplished that goal by defining the exercise zone with a 5 mm luxury vinyl plank to differentiate it from the carpeted media area. We punctuated the space with its own wall-mounted flat screen, and installed a dedicated circuit for the treadmill, to avoid overloading the home’s electrical circuits.
