The original basement in this single family Calgary home was not serving the client’s needs. Our mission: to create a destination that included a bedroom, bathroom and hybrid TV/workout room.
A set of wide, carpeted stairs welcomes the family to the new basement. We kept the overall aesthetic consistent by matching the downstairs trim, doors and paint colours with the upstairs. We swapped out circular diffusers and added new walls and drywall, along with beautiful, thick wall-to-wall carpet. No one likes going down to a poorly lit basement, so we installed LED potlights with Decora plugs and switches. We textured the ceiling and installed a TV package that includes a raised plug, internet and cable inputs, along with in-wall HDMI conduit. We also made sure the bedroom was connected for television and internet.
To make sure we used every available space to the max, we utilized an area on the other side of the stairs for a dedicated office nook. This basement is now a multi-functional, usable part of the home.

The main living area in this basement does double duty as both a media and workout room. 28-ounce Shaw carpet with 8-pound underlay allows for cosy couch time, while the large screen TV is ready to motivate during workouts. An area under the stairs was developed to allow extra space for the treadmill. The aesthetics from above continue downstairs with matched paint on the walls, and the same doors and trim.
