Topping our clients’ interior design wishlist: to have natural elements, without feeling too much like a barn or a cabin. With a less-is-more approach, our designer brought in accents while maintaining an open, airy feeling.
First, though, we started with the logistics — literally laying the groundwork. We began the project by installing cork underlay for comfort and warmth.
Next, we added 7mm vinyl plank flooring to anchor the rustic accents within this contemporary new build. We installed sound deadening throughout, to soften the surround sound coming from the TV Package, which in this case includes the upgrade to Projector package
- Custom Reclaimed mantle and bar shelving are from an early 1800's barn in southern Ontario.
- 5' bar w/ under counter fridge, white quartz countertops and artisan-crafted herringbone tile.
- Floor tile- Kirkby is inspired by the natural volcanic stone

Living / Theatre Room
The living room is the heart of this basement development. A custom wood mantelpiece and shelving set the tone, reclaimed from a Southern Ontario barn built in the early 1800s. The 60" electric fireplace is encased by natural ledger stone in Glacier. Overhead, we added ceiling beams, reclaimed from an elevator granary in southern Saskatchewan. We nestled each potlight into a section of the beam’s grid formation.
The living room is screen-free. until it’s movie night! Then a hidden projector screen lowers from the ceiling, making any show a special event.

Called Kirkby, it’s inspired by the natural volcanic stone originating in the heart of England, next to the mining town of Kirkby-in-Furness where stone has been quarried for more than 400 years. The Kirkby tile seen here comprises 34% recycled materials.
In the custom shower with chic black accents, 6" hexagon ceramic wall tile brings a stylish contrast, with Delta Ashlyn plumbing fixtures throughout.
