This basement demolition and reinstallation was done in a single-family home in Calgary’s Rocky Ride community. After the demolition, we split the basement into two main areas: a large main living area, and the other side of the basement which houses the bathroom, bedroom, and furnace in separate rooms.

To complete the installation, we also took several other side steps. These include adding a textured ceiling and level 4 finish drywall, as well as changing the finishing and paint to better match the upper levels of the home. For lighting, we added 12 LED potlights and Decora plugs/switches. We also put Shaw carpeting throughout the space, with the exception of the bathroom and back landing, which is tile. Finally, we implemented some additional heating equipment, adding one new heat run and swapping out the existing square heat runs for circular diffusers.

Features
  • Main Living Area
  • Bedroom

Main Living Area

We had to be clever with our design in order to really make the most use out of this sizeable space. To make this happen, we opted to use a 32oz carpet with a 10 lb memory foam underlay as our flooring-post demolition. Because this is a full rebuild, we also made several aesthetic changes, including a feature ledge around the basement to serve as an accent and implementing a feature wall color. We also added our base TV package, as always. This package includes raised plug, internet, and TV, as well as an in-wall conduit with HDMI. Additional Internet and TV were also ran to the bedroom.

Bedroom

Our two main goals for this space, per the client, were to provide a spacious basement as well as plenty of closet space. On top of accomplishing these goals, we had to change the slider window for the awning style, to remain compliant with existing egress codes.

Bathroom

The original version of this basement did not have the necessary plumbing to hold a bathroom. As a result, we jackhammered the concrete floor, rerouted the plumbing, and repaired the concrete to make this room possible. Regarding the bathroom details themselves, we implemented high-end Delta fixtures and Moen toiletries throughout. However, the two major centerpieces of this bathroom are a uniquely customized shower with concrete base and the 31” stained wood vanity with granite top.
