The large basement in this Calgary home was destined to be a central hub for the family — if only it was a place people wanted to hang out in. With that in mind, we aimed for a feeling that was more “great room” than basement.
We focused on creating a rustic feeling. We added real reclaimed barn wood accents throughout the basement level, along with a solid wood mantle above the fireplace, nestled in a floor-to ceiling stacked stone wall. Continuing our “upscale barn” agenda, on the floor, we installed luxury vinyl planking, which is hard-wearing and has a lifetime warranty.
We matched the paint colour on the walls to the main level, while adding a feature wall of stone. We also matched the doors and trim to the main level. Our TV package included a raised plug, internet and cable in the main room and bedroom, along with in-wall HDMI conduit and 5.1 Surround Sound, built right into the ceiling. No wires to be seen. We also added a lot of lighting to the basement – 16 potlights to be exact.
A custom drybar with its own accent lighting tops it all off. Now our clients are ready for winter movie nights — which can be any night of the year in Calgary.
- Custom Dry Bar
- Wood Accents
Our client couldn’t imagine their dream basement without a bar. A drybar (without a sink) was a cost-effective solution for easy entertaining on movie nights. No running upstairs for refreshments required. A natural stone feature wall above and a country-style solid slatted wood cabinet below keep it in character with the rest of the space.
There’s nothing like reclaimed wood to bring personality to a home. To create a cohesive theme, we used it in several areas throughout the basement. We clad the beams and support posts in reclaimed barn wood. For the wood mantle above the fireplace, we brought in one solid piece of reclaimed wood.
Country style combined with a spa-like shower gives this bathroom a unique feel that’s consistent with the upscale barn style across the entire downstairs level. Stepping into this 5’x3’ shower means a spacious experience with two showerheads. A granite counter on the vanity, along with upgraded Delta fixtures, completes the room.
Investing in a basement renovation can be a big decision and understanding all the facts is crucial to the success of your project. If you have any questions about the financing process give us a call and we’d be happy to help.
